Kurt Landauer – A Fan shop
Kurt Landauer – A Fan shop
Kurt Landauer made Bavarian football history. He led FC Bayern Munich to the first German championship in 1932. Bavarian Television is now honoring the life of the Bayern president with a feature film and a documentary that will be broadcast on ARD on October 15, 2014, in addition to a narrative world about the Landauer legend. The Jewish Museum Munich is opening a temporary fan shop dedicated to this important Munich figure.
The installation in the foyer, designed by chezweitz, presents historical objects and props from the film to fans of the FC Bayern president and interested parties, revealing different facets of Kurt Landauer – as a football enthusiast, as a Bavarian, and as a Jew. Born in 1884 in Planegg, Kurt Landauer played for FC Bayern from 1901 onwards, and in 1913 he became president for the first time. After the Nazis seized power in 1933, Landauer was forced to resign as president because of his Jewish heritage. He survived the Shoah in exile in Geneva, while his siblings Paul, Franz, Leo, and Gabriele were murdered. Kurt Landauer was one of the few emigrants who returned to their homeland after 1945 and remained there despite the painful experience. “His football club,” FC Bayern, was a connection to his life before 1933, and he became its club president again after 1945.
