Feasibility study
In an intensive dialogue, a feasibility study was commissioned by the Weimar Classics Foundation, which compiled the fundamental conceptual and financial foundations for the museum’s redesign: the preservation objectives and regulations of the UNESCO World Heritage site, weighed against the requirements of successful museum operation. This study particularly addressed the rapidly changing visitor base and the desire for a broader and deeper appreciation of Goethe’s diverse fields of thought and work.
The study presents the fundamental conceptual principles and framework for the architectural and scenographic redesign of the building.
The interventions and changes were carefully discussed, compiled, and coordinated during the feasibility study. A group of eight curators, representatives of the Monument Preservation Office, and the Construction Department of the Weimar Classics Foundation participated. The process was also supported by a high-caliber academic advisory board.
