Hermann Glöckner in dialogue with the sculpture collection of the Kunsthalle Rostock
New Splendor for the Kunsthalle Rostock – Opening Exhibition with Works by Hermann Glöckner
The completely redesigned exhibition space in the basement will kick off with a comprehensive exhibition on the work of the important artist Hermann Glöckner. Born in Dresden in 1889, Glöckner developed an independent oeuvre that flourished independently of the political or artistic movements of the GDR. Today, he is considered the “Patriarch of Modernism” and enjoys international recognition. Glöckner died in West Berlin in 1987.
For the first time, the Kunsthalle is showing the complete collection of its own collection: ten drawings, ten prints, two sculptures, a collage, and a painting. The exhibition is complemented by high-profile loans from a private Dresden collector.
In this white cube, the complete collection of portrait sculptures will be presented for the first time – deliberately without any art-historical hierarchy or didactic classification. The works stand side by side on an equal footing and invite one to approach them with an open mind and a completely subjective approach.
